Assalamu'alaykum...
To fulfill my last business communication's assignment, now I'd like to make some list for legal and illegal questions in interview :)
Questions
that you can ask in an interview :
1. Why should we hire you?
2. Why do you want to work here?
3. What can you do for us that other
candidates can't?
4. What salary are you seeking?
5. What do you know about this company?
6. Why do you want this job?
7. How do you handle stressful situations
and working under pressure?
8. Are you applying for other jobs?
9. What are your strengths?
10. What are your weaknesses?
11.Why do you want to leave your current
company?
12.What motivates you?
13.What’s your availability?
14.What are your career goals?
15.Can you tell me a little about
yourself?
16. Do you have any physical or mental
disabilities?
17. When are you planning to have children?
18. You are a moslem, Will you need time
off for religious holidays?
19. Have You Ever Been Arrested?
20. Do You Like To Drink Socially?
Let’s
Find a list of illegal questions and why those questions are illegal, also how
to answer those questions !
·
Do you have any physical or mental disabilities?
This is illegal,
because this is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against a qualified
applicant or employee with a disability.
·
When are you planning to have children?
Because sex is a
federally protected class, which means an employer cannot discriminate against
a male or female job applicant.
·
You are a moselm, will you need time off for religious holidays?
Religious
discrimination is prohibited, so employers are barred from basing hiring
decisions on a person’s religious beliefs, observances, or practices.
·
Have You Ever Been Arrested?
It's not illegal to
ask if you've ever been convicted of a crime, and many employers do, either on
the application or in the interview. But what they can't ask about is your
arrest record
·
Do You Like To Drink Socially?
It's not entirely
clear why this would come up in an interview situation, but if it does, it's
actually illegal in order to protect people who might answer "No."
Responding to illegal questions can be
tricky.
You can certainly choose to answer the
question honestly, though a candid response could harm your candidacy for the
job.
You can also refuse to answer the
question, which may be appropriate in some situations, but can also make you
seem defensive or unfriendly if the question was asked without hidden motives.
Between ignoring the offensive question or
responding outright, lies the art of deflection. This is where you turn around
the situation to benefit both sides.
That's all.
Hope this'll be useful for you ;)
